Students unfurl banner of five demands at Tugu Tani, Jakarta
The afternoon protest remained orderly until about 17:17 WIB, with demands on forest fires, civil space, corruption, the economy and tuition.
A crowd of students marking two years of the Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka administration unfurled a banner listing five demands at Tugu Tani in Central Jakarta on Tuesday afternoon (20/10). After taking turns giving speeches, two participants climbed onto the monument to hang the banner, while others sang “Tanah Airku” and chanted “revolusi.” Their demands included designating forest and land fires as a national disaster, improving economic governance, stopping the narrowing of civil space and militarization, eradicating KKN, and lowering education costs. Fathimah Azzahra, deputy chair of BEM UI, said the afternoon action was the second event of the day. By 17:17 WIB, the demonstration remained orderly and traffic around the site was still flowing.
