Putin-Trump hold 90-minute call, Russia to ship diesel to US
The Kremlin said Ukraine was the main topic, while the diesel deal drew sharp criticism from Kyiv.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump spoke by phone for about 90 minutes on Friday, with the war in Ukraine as the main topic. The Kremlin said they also discussed Iran, bilateral ties and energy supplies. According to the Kremlin and a post by Trump on Truth Social, Russia agreed to supply more than 300,000 tons of diesel to the U.S. and global market, followed by 500,000 tons in November and 1 million tons afterward, with an additional 3 million tons after refineries are ready. Reuters reported the move was followed by a temporary easing of U.S. sanctions on Russian fuel, which drew objections from Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called it a weak decision and an investment in a war that should end.
