Trump removes White House press secretary Katie Zacharia after 5 days
The White House loses its top spokeswoman less than three weeks before the U.S. midterm elections.
President of the United States Donald Trump removed White House press secretary Katie Zacharia after she had served only five days. Two White House officials said Zacharia was in the process of leaving the post after her performance drew criticism and questions were raised about her legal credentials. Speaking to reporters, Trump said he had suggested Zacharia consider stepping down. Zacharia led her first press briefing on Tuesday, but the session was brief and drew scrutiny. Reuters also found no record that the Pepperdine University graduate was admitted to the bar in any state or in the District of Columbia. In an interview with Fox News, she acknowledged that she had not passed the bar exam. The move comes as Trump works to help the Republican Party ahead of the November midterm elections.
