US launches fresh wave of strikes on Iran, blasts hit south
The latest attacks marked the third round in a week over the Strait of Hormuz, after US said it struck 140 targets a day earlier.
The United States launched a new wave of strikes on Iran early Sunday, triggering blasts in several southern areas of the country. Iranian state television reported three explosions in Bandar Abbas, two in Sirik, two near Chabahar, more than 10 in Jask, and other blasts in Asaluyeh, Bandar Dayyer, Shah Abdollah Village, and a military barracks south of Bushehr. There were no immediate reports of casualties. CENTCOM said the operation began at 17.00 ET under President Donald Trump’s direction to weaken Iran’s ability to attack civilian sailors and commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM said this was the third wave of US strikes in a week, after the US military said a day earlier that it had hit about 140 Iranian military targets.
