UBK suspends law student body chief after Rp20 million admission
The university says the money was routed through a senior alumnus from police personnel and is now under review by an investigative team.
Universitas Bung Karno has suspended Muhammad Abdi Maludin, chairman of the Faculty of Law student executive board, after he admitted receiving Rp20 juta in connection with a student protest and a meeting with Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka on 15 June at the Patung Kuda area in Central Jakarta. Vice Rector III Daniel Panda said the money was received through a senior alumnus of the Faculty of Law and came from police personnel. According to the university's account, the funds were given ahead of the protest with the aim of keeping students from demonstrating at the Istana and directing them to the DPR RI. UBK has formed an investigative team, questioned other students suspected of being involved, and prepared sanctions in line with campus rules. Rector Sri Mumpuni Ngesti Rahaju also stressed that students' presence at the meeting with the vice president was not an official university mandate.
