U.S. House approves limits on Trump war powers over Iran

The U.S. House of Representatives approved a resolution limiting President Donald Trump’s authority in the war against Iran, voting 215 to 208 on Wednesday (3/6). Four Republican lawmakers — Thomas Massie, Brian Fitzpatrick, Tom Barrett and Warren Davidson — backed the Democratic-led measure. The resolution would require Trump to seek congressional approval to continue military operations. It is based on the War Powers Act 1973, which restricts presidents from deploying forces without parliamentary authorization except in the face of a direct threat to the U.S. Even so, the House action still depends heavily on the Senate process and could be blocked by a presidential veto. Trump called the vote “unpatriotic” and said the move disrupted last-minute negotiations with Iran.
