Trump seeks meeting with Mojtaba amid US-Iran talks

Trump said Mojtaba has already been involved in talks and kept demanding Iran shut off any path to nuclear weapons.

President Donald Trump said he wants to meet Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei amid ongoing Washington-Tehran peace talks. In an interview on Wednesday (3/6), Trump said Mojtaba has been directly involved in discussions with the US after the April 8 ceasefire, although communication has reportedly taken place through written messages and intermediaries. Trump also said he had heard Mojtaba has not fully recovered since a joint US and Israel strike in late February that killed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and wounded him in Tehran. At the same time, Washington has tightened its negotiating terms and again demanded that Iran not obtain nuclear weapons. Trump said the talks are moving quickly and expressed optimism that a deal can be reached.
