Trump targets November meeting with Kim Jong Un in China

No formal plan is in place yet, and Pyongyang has not responded to the outreach tied to the APEC summit in Shenzhen.

President Donald Trump said he wants to meet in person with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un before the end of 2026, with the timing expected in November when he attends the APEC summit in Shenzhen, China. Trump gave a brief answer that he would meet Kim, but offered no further details. The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump has relayed the request to aides, though no official arrangements have been made and Pyongyang has not responded. The plan emerged after Trump ordered the Pentagon to sharply reduce joint U.S.-South Korea military exercises, which he called costly and a source of hostility. If it happens, it would be the first meeting between Trump and Kim in Trump’s second term.
