US strike near children’s cancer hospital in Ahvaz evacuates 211

Iran called the strike a war crime as fresh explosions were reported in several cities and at key points near the Strait of Hormuz.

A US strike near Syahid Baghaei Specialist Hospital in Ahvaz, southwestern Iran, forced the evacuation of 211 patients undergoing chemotherapy on Wednesday night. Iran condemned the strike as a “barbaric” act and a war crime, saying it triggered panic at the children’s cancer treatment center. Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said the blast around the hospital caused severe suffering and anxiety among the children being treated. Iranian media also reported explosions in Bandar Abbas, Chabahar, Konarak, Rasak and Qeshm Island. According to CENTCOM, the operation targeted Iran’s military capabilities that were seen as threatening international shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
