Russian ballistic missiles hit Kyiv, deaths also reported in Poltava

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported one death, while strikes near Kryvyi Rih and Poltava also left people dead and injured.

Russia launched a wave of ballistic missile strikes on Ukraine early Thursday, with explosions heard in Kyiv, Poltava, Kryvyi Rih and Lviv. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko urged residents to remain in shelters after missile debris from intercepted projectiles sparked fires in the Sviatoshynskyi District and in a nonresidential area in Obolonskyi. In his latest update, Klitschko reported one person killed in Kyiv. Local officials also said six people were killed and eight wounded, including two children, after a missile hit a house in a village near Kryvyi Rih. The Poltava city government reported one death. The attack came hours after President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that Russia was preparing a major assault.
