Prabowo discusses rupiah at Rp18.201, MBG efficiency with DEN
Officials urged caution on second-half inflation as a weak rupiah and higher energy costs squeeze production and distribution expenses.
President Prabowo Subianto summoned the Dewan Ekonomi Nasional to the Istana on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, to discuss macroeconomic conditions, the weakening rupiah and a review of state spending. In the meeting, DEN highlighted the rupiah exchange rate, which on June 8 fell through Rp18.201 per US dollar, and the risk it poses for higher prices, especially for lower-middle-income groups. Chatib Basri recommended efficiency measures on large-budget projects, including Makan Bergizi Gratis. Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan also reported a review of MBG governance and progress on govtech, which was said to be about 80 percent connected across eight ministries and agencies as of June 1. Mochammad Firman Hidayat said Indonesia's economic fundamentals remain stronger than during the 1998 crisis, but war and higher global energy prices need to be anticipated because they could drive inflation in the second half.
