18,504 personnel to secure Aug. 27 protests at DPR and Central Jakarta

A total of 18,504 personnel have been deployed to secure and serve demonstrations on Thursday (27/8) at several points in Central Jakarta, with the main concentration around the DPR/MPR RI complex in Senayan. Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief Reynold EP Hutagalung said security began at 07.00 WIB and was divided into several zones, from Ring 1 DPR to Palmerah, BPK RI, Bundaran HI and Dukuh Atas. Police will arrange and divert traffic situationally if congestion worsens or crowds block roads. A day earlier, Polda Metro Jaya estimated about 500 people from Aliansi Masyarakat Pati Bersatu and Aliansi Merah Putih would join the protest. Police said the personnel on duty would not carry firearms or sharp weapons.
