Oman, Iran continue talks on Strait of Hormuz navigation in Muscat

The discussions will continue at technical and political levels to build an understanding in line with international law.

Oman and Iran agreed to continue technical and political talks on navigation in the Strait of Hormuz after a meeting in Muscat on Saturday (11/7). According to the Oman News Agency, the discussions are aimed at maintaining safety and freedom of navigation in the strategic strait amid rising tensions. A day earlier, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi would travel to Oman for consultations on the Strait of Hormuz. The talks came after tensions escalated following reciprocal strikes by the United States and Iran. ANTARA reported that Tehran had previously tightened control over the passage, which carries about one-fifth of global oil trade by sea.
