NTT quake leaves one Palue village isolated, 68 dead
BNPB has temporarily closed Wae Rebo, Goa Rangko and Kelimutu, while access to Desa Lidi remains blocked by landslides and high waves.
Five days after a magnitude 7.7 quake shook Flores, one village on Pulau Palue, Sikka Regency, remained isolated while the death toll in Nusa Tenggara Timur reached 68 as of Monday (17/8). Sikka Deputy Police Chief Compol Marselus Yugo Amboro said Desa Lidi could not yet be reached because the road was blocked by large rocks and landslides, while sea access also remained impossible due to high waves. Residents in the village were reported to be short of clean water and food supplies. BNPB also temporarily closed several tourist sites, including Kampung Adat Wae Rebo in Manggarai, Goa Rangko in Manggarai Barat, and Kelimutu National Park in Ende. BNPB data showed more than 5.000 people displaced, 914 houses severely damaged, 126 moderately damaged, 317 slightly damaged, and dozens of schools, health facilities and government offices also damaged.
