NTT extends earthquake emergency status through Sept. 12
Ngada evacuee figures were revised sharply higher to 21,552 from 3,259, while delivered logistics reached 1,916 tons.
The Nusa Tenggara Timur provincial government has extended the earthquake emergency status for 14 days until Sept. 12, 2026, following the magnitude 7.7 quake that hit Flores Island on Aug. 15. BNPB said the death toll remained at 111 as of Aug. 29, with 9,278 aftershocks, the largest measuring 6.2, and 153 felt by residents. The increase in evacuees mainly came from updated data in Ngada regency, where after verification the figure rose from 3,259 to 21,552 people. BNPB said the extension was needed to keep logistics and aid distribution moving without administrative obstacles. By Aug. 29, 1,916 tons of logistics had been delivered, including 1,200 tons to Labuan Bajo and 598 tons to Maumere. In Sikka, government operations were also moved to emergency tents after office buildings were damaged.
