Menteri mark Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day with NTT quake survivors
The government sent officials to affected areas to oversee emergency response and residents’ needs directly on the ground.
A number of ministers and state officials marked the 81st anniversary of Indonesia’s independence with residents affected by the earthquake in Nusa Tenggara Timur. Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno said the ceremony was not centered in Jakarta, but held in various affected areas so the central government could at the same time oversee disaster response according to each official’s duties. Pratikno attended the ceremony in Ruteng, Manggarai Regency, accompanied by Deputy Social Affairs Minister Agus Jabo and BNPB head Suharyanto. After the ceremony, they were scheduled to visit survivors in evacuation shelters. The central government has also set up operational posts in Labuan Bajo and Maumere to strengthen coordination with local governments and speed up aid distribution to affected areas.
