M7.7 quake in NTT kills 1 at Maumere port
BMKG recorded 111 aftershocks by 10:00 WITA, and the tsunami early warning has been lifted.
A joint search and rescue team evacuated three victims trapped under building rubble in the Laurens Say Port area of Maumere, Sikka Regency, after a magnitude 7.7 quake struck Nusa Tenggara Timur on Saturday (15/8). One victim, Meliana Nenong, 54, was found dead, while two others were injured and taken to RSUD T.C. Hillers Maumere. Maumere SAR office chief Fathur Rahman said teams were also moving to Nagekeo Regency and other affected locations. The Kupang Geophysical Station of BMKG reported 111 aftershocks by 10:00 WITA, with the latest measuring 3.8. The tsunami early warning issued after the epicenter was located northeast of Mbay, Nagekeo, was later lifted.
