Jonatan rallies past Alwi 2-1 to reach quarterfinals

Jonatan Christie advanced to the quarterfinals of the Indonesia Open 2026 after winning an all-Indonesian derby against Alwi Farhan at Istora Gelora Bung Karno, Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday. The fifth seed dropped the opening game before coming back to win 17-21, 21-17, 21-16 in a 75-minute match. The result improved Jonatan's head-to-head record against Alwi to 2-0, after he also beat him at the Korea Open 2025. Alwi pushed hard with aggressive play and took the opening game, but Jonatan changed the pace with longer rallies and more efficient play in the final two games. In the quarterfinals, Jonatan will meet Japan's Yushi Tanaka, who defeated China’s Shi Yu Qi.
