Jakarta Cleans Up After August 27 Unrest Near DPR
Gatot Subroto and the parliamentary complex area were restored a day after a protest that turned violent.
Public infrastructure and facilities officers cleaned up trash, leftover debris and graffiti after the August 27 action around the Parliamentary Complex, Jakarta, ended in unrest. The cleanup began Friday morning, 28 August 2026, on Jalan Gatot Subroto and along the fences of several facilities, including around Menara BNI. A day earlier, security for the demonstration in front of DPR/MPR involved Polda Metro Jaya, Polres Metro Jakarta Pusat, and support from Kodam Jaya troops. Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago said the deployment was intended to escort the crowd as they voiced their aspirations and to prevent disruptions from other groups. Conditions around the parliamentary complex on Friday morning were reported to be gradually returning to normal.
