Israeli strike in southern Lebanon kills 11

The truce that took effect in June is under strain again, and Beirut says the attack undercuts U.S.-mediated talks.

An Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon on Saturday (15/8) killed at least 11 people, making it the deadliest day since the ceasefire took effect on June 20. Lebanon's Health Ministry said a strike on a house on the outskirts of Ansar killed seven people, including three children, and another strike in Deir al-Zahrani killed four people and wounded several others. The Israeli military said the strikes targeted Hizbullah infrastructure in Ansar and Ali al-Taher after an attack on its soldiers that wounded three troops. Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said the victims in Ansar were not military targets. President Joseph Aoun said the attack sent a message that undermines U.S. efforts to carry out the Lebanon-Israel agreement.
