Bahlil threatens to halt gas exports to neighboring countries
The government is prioritizing domestic supply as industry groups continue to report tight gas availability and seek relief.
Coordinating Minister for Downstream Development and Energy Transition Bahlil Lahadalia opened the option of halting or not extending gas exports to neighboring countries, while reviewing contracts with countries he said do not respect Indonesia. He said President Prabowo Subianto's directive is clear: natural resources should first be used to meet domestic needs. Bahlil said Indonesia is in “survival mode” on energy. At the same time, the government is counting on additional gas production from the Jangkrik and South Hub facilities in East Kalimantan. The added supply, said to reach 290 million standard cubic feet per day, is expected to support domestic demand before exports are made. Kadin and the Indonesian Ceramic Industry Association said they support the move because industry has long complained about tight gas supply.
