Government strengthens health services for wildfire-hit residents

Authorities are accelerating monitoring of respiratory infections, air quality, oxygen houses, logistics, medicine and remote schooling in smoky areas.

The government is strengthening health response measures for residents affected by forest and land fires, alongside firefighting efforts that remain constrained by water shortages and limited cloud cover for weather modification. Kemenko Polkam Deputy Assistant Brig. Gen. Kresno Pratowo said monitoring is focused on acute respiratory infection cases, the condition of residents exposed to smoke, mask use, and coordination with the Ministry of Health on recovery steps. The government is also preparing oxygen houses, mobilizing logistics, medical equipment and medicine, while monitoring air quality and readiness for remote learning if the air becomes hazardous. Home Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian added that extinguishing fires on peatland is difficult because it requires large amounts of water during the dry season.
