M6.7 quake in Palu damages bridge and buildings, 20 aftershocks
As of 12:00 WIB, no deaths had been reported, but five homes in Parigi Moutong were damaged and Palu III was closed.
A magnitude 6.7 tectonic quake that struck Palu, Central Sulawesi, on Tuesday morning damaged a number of buildings and prompted the temporary closure of Palu III Bridge after signs of cracking appeared in the structure. BMKG and BPBD had received no reports of deaths or injuries as of 12:00 WIB. Damage was recorded in Palu city, Sigi district and Parigi Moutong, including the ceiling of the Sigi regent's office, the auditorium of Universitas Tadulako, Hotel Santika, Best Western Coco Palu and at least five homes. BMKG said the shallow quake was triggered by activity along the Sausu Fault, centered 42 kilometers southeast of Palu, and had no tsunami potential. By midday, BMKG had recorded 20 aftershocks, with the largest measuring 5.1.
