M6.7 quake in Palu damages Untad building, 8 aftershocks
Basarnas said no one was killed, RS Undata patients have returned to wards, and the airport was reported safe.
A magnitude 6.7 earthquake shook the Palu area of Central Sulawesi on Tuesday at 10:27 WIB, with the epicenter on land 42 kilometers southeast of Palu at a depth of 10 kilometers. BMKG said the shallow quake had no potential to trigger a tsunami. In Palu, parts of a Universitas Tadulako building were damaged while the auditorium was being used for a primary school graduation ceremony, but all participants were evacuated safely. Palu Basarnas chief Muhammad Rizal said there were no fatalities, RS Undata patients who had been evacuated have returned to their wards, and Bandar Udara Mutiara SIS Al-Jufri remained safe. BMKG Palu staff member Hendrik recorded eight aftershocks by 12:00 WITA.
