England finish third at the 2026 World Cup after 6-4 win

Kylian Mbappe still leads the scoring race with 10 goals, while Michael Olise set a record with seven assists in one tournament.

England closed out the 2026 World Cup with a third-place finish after beating France 6-4 in the third-place playoff in Miami, Florida, early Sunday WIB. The result marked England's best showing since the 1966 title and the first time they finished third, after failing in the same match in 1990 and 2018. For France, the loss was not entirely bitter because Kylian Mbappe scored twice to take his tally to 10 goals, two ahead of Lionel Messi, who had only played in the final against Spain. Michael Olise also set a new record with seven assists, surpassing Pele's six-assist mark at the 1970 World Cup. For Didier Deschamps, the match ended a medal-less finish to his spell in charge of France.
