BEM UI rejects claim its Bundaran HI protest lacked notice
BEM UI says it has proof the notice was sent three days earlier, while police say they only received a PDF via WhatsApp.
BEM UI rejected the claim by Polres Metro Jakarta Pusat that a student protest at Bundaran HI on 12 June 2026 was held without official notice. BEM UI chairman Yatalathof Ma'shum Imawan said the group had sent notice letters to Polres Metro Jakarta Pusat and Polda Metro Jaya, and said it even held proof of the submission. He said the letter was sent three days before the protest.
Polres Metro Jakarta Pusat chief Reynold E.P. Hutagalung said police only received an initial PDF notice via WhatsApp on 11 June at 02.56 WIB. When follow-up communication was made on Friday morning, the message reportedly went unanswered. Police cited Article 10 of Law No. 9 of 1998, which requires notice to be delivered directly by the person in charge of the event no later than 3x24 jam before the protest.
