Bahlil eases 2026 coal output above 600 million ton target
The increase will be tied to a revised RKAB and used only if global prices are seen as favorable.
Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia has decided to give a measured relaxation to 2026 coal production, allowing output to exceed the current RKAB target of around 600 million tons. The policy will be prepared through an RKAB revision, taking into account a surge in commodity prices amid global geopolitical tensions, including in the Middle East. Bahlil did not specify the additional production figure, but said the government would adjust it to world prices and demand while ensuring domestic needs such as PLN, fertilizer, and industry are met. API-IMA welcomed the move because mining operating costs also rise when the US dollar strengthens, especially for fuel, heavy equipment, and imported spare parts. The association said the relaxation could keep mine operations running, support state revenue, and reduce the risk of layoffs.
