NATO set to roll out arms deals worth tens of billions at Ankara summit

What's new: Allies are also preparing plans to keep at least €70 billion a year in military aid flowing to Ukraine in 2026 and 2027.

NATO allies are preparing to unveil new arms contracts worth tens of billions of dollars at their summit in Ankara as they try to show President Donald Trump they are meeting a pledge to raise defense spending. Secretary-General Mark Rutte said European allies and Canada are already investing about 4% of GDP in defense and security and will present plans to reach a 5% target by 2035. He said their core defense spending in 2025 was nearly 20% higher than a year earlier, with 2025 and 2026 combined adding $258 billion in investment. President Volodymyr Zelensky will attend part of the summit as allies discuss continued support for Ukraine, including air defenses.
