Indonesia, 11 countries condemn Israel strike on Syria base

A joint foreign ministers' statement called the Abu Al-Duhur strike an “extreme escalation” and urged concrete UN action.

Indonesia, Turkey and 10 other countries condemned Israel's strike on the Abu Al-Duhur military base in Syria in a joint statement by foreign ministers published Friday, August 21. They described the attack as an “extreme escalation” and a violation of Syria's sovereignty, territorial integrity and political unity. The statement also said repeated strikes and damage to Syrian infrastructure risk undermining efforts to restore security, rebuild national institutions and address the humanitarian crisis after years of war. The foreign ministers urged the international community to take a firm stance and concrete steps in line with international law and the U.N. Charter, and demanded compliance with the 1974 Israel-Syria agreement and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied territory to prevent further escalation.
