U.S. long-range missile stockpiles thin after 5 months of war

The strain could leave Washington more dependent on riskier manned bomber strikes if the conflict widens.

America’s stockpile of high-precision long-range missiles has reportedly thinned sharply after five months of war against Iran. Three sources familiar with internal data said the U.S. Army has used much of its global stock of Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) and Precision Strike Missiles (PrSM), and two of them said supplies of both missile types were nearly exhausted. Each round is worth more than US$1 million and has been a mainstay of precision strikes from standoff range. The drawdown has raised questions in Congress about how long the U.S. can keep up the attacks without undermining readiness for another crisis. Another source said Central Command could still meet its needs by pulling munitions from U.S. stocks in other regions. Donald Trump, through the White House, claimed U.S. ammunition stocks remain far larger than those of any other country.
