Putin urges Iran deal in call with Trump

Kremlin said Trump welcomed Russia’s role, including a proposal to transfer enriched uranium.

Russian President Vladimir Putin urged the United States to strike a deal with Iran during a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday, the Kremlin said. A day earlier, Putin also met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Turkmenbashi, Turkmenistan, and offered Russia’s help to assist Tehran in resolving regional tensions. Kremlin spokesman Yury Ushakov said Putin believed the diplomatic track on Iran was not closed and could still be pursued. Ushakov added that Trump welcomed Russia’s involvement in easing the situation around Iran. Moscow also renewed a proposal to transfer enriched uranium. Pezeshkian said Iran wanted the war to end soon while its rights were respected, and that talks with the United States would continue through mediators.
