Trump defends tariffs in Michigan, floats USMCA exit

President Donald Trump defended his tariff policy during a stop at General Motors' Milford Proving Grounds in Michigan, arguing the levies are pushing automakers to build more vehicles in the United States. He also said in a Fox News interview that he would rather leave the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement than renegotiate it. Trump said new duties are "another ... way of doing the same thing" after the Supreme Court struck down an earlier tariff program. The administration last week imposed new tariffs of 10% to 12.5% on goods from more than 80 countries under Section 301, while Canada already faces 25% U.S. tariffs on some autos and parts and has imposed matching tariffs on some U.S. vehicles and parts.
