Trump halts planned strikes on Iran if a deal comes quickly

What's new: Iran denied asking for a pause, while Saudi Arabia pushed diplomacy as reports pointed to possible US-Israeli attacks.

President Donald Trump said he canceled planned US strikes on Iran on the condition that a deal is reached quickly, after reports that Washington and Israel had discussed a new round of attacks on Iranian energy infrastructure. In a Truth Social post, Trump wrote that the US was ready to act at overwhelming force but would hold off after what he described as agreed deal parameters and requests from Iran and other Middle Eastern countries. Iran's semi-official Mehr news agency rejected that account as false. Acting Defense Minister Majid Ibn al-Reza said Tehran viewed threats as credible and would not stay passive. Saudi state media also reported a call between Trump and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman focused on reducing regional tensions.
