The Trump administration asked the Supreme Court on Monday to let President Donald Trump’s executive order on mail voting take effect in the 23 states and Washington, D.C., that sued to block it. The emergency appeal followed a 2-1 ruling by the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals keeping in place a Massachusetts judge’s injunction ahead of the Nov. 3 midterm elections. Trump’s March order directs federal agencies to build a citizenship list of eligible voters and tells the U.S. Postal Service to deliver mail ballots only to people on that list. A separate appeals ruling last week lifted a broader injunction elsewhere, raising the prospect that different states could face different rules while the legal fight continues.
