Tito: Post-disaster recovery in Sumatra runs through 2028
Though daily activity and the economy are returning to normal, housing, education and infrastructure still need follow-up work.
Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian said post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction in several areas of Sumatra will continue through 2028. He said community activity and the local economy in affected areas are starting to return to normal, but recovery remains incomplete. Several sectors still require follow-up handling, especially housing, education and infrastructure. The statement underscores that the recovery phase in the affected areas is not over even as overall conditions gradually improve. The rehabilitation and reconstruction process is a medium-term task to restore basic services and public facilities in disaster-hit parts of Sumatra.
