Supreme Court lets Trump press ahead with White House ballroom

The Supreme Court on Monday allowed the Trump administration to keep building a new White House East Wing ballroom while the legal fight continues, making it likely the project will be largely finished before the courts rule on its legality. In an unsigned opinion, the majority said the National Trust for Historic Preservation was likely unable to bring the case in federal court and that halting above-ground work would irreparably harm the government. President Donald Trump began demolishing the East Wing in late 2025 for the 90,000-square-foot project. The administration told the court 250 workers are on site around the clock and the structure is already 65% complete. Chief Justice John Roberts joined the three liberal justices in dissent.
