PU demolishes 2 houses of worship badly damaged by Flores quake
The government is involving local residents in reconstruction so rebuilding public facilities also helps restore livelihoods.
Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo inspected damage to public service buildings in Manggarai Regency, Nusa Tenggara Timur, after the earthquake on Flores Island. He said Masjid Nurul Huda Reo and Gereja Santo Petrus dan Paulus Dampek were badly damaged and must be demolished and rebuilt, while buildings that can still be repaired will enter the rehabilitation phase. The PU Ministry is using technical assessments as the basis for handling the damage, with stronger construction for earthquake-prone areas. Dody also called for coordination with mosque administrators, priests, parish officials, and Keuskupan Ruteng to preserve local wisdom. As of 26 August, the Directorate General of Human Settlements had carried out rapid inspections at 66 locations across eight affected regencies in NTT.
