Indonesia Seeks Envoy for Ali Khamenei Farewell Tribute
Iran is reported to have granted access only to officials above ambassador level, leaving Jakarta waiting on a replacement delegation.
The Indonesian government is seeking a replacement delegate to attend the farewell tribute for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei after the Indonesian Ambassador in Tehran was denied access to the lying-in-state area. Foreign Minister Sugiono said Indonesia had initially named Indonesian Ambassador to Iran Rolliansyah Soemirat as its representative after receiving an invitation from Iran. But on 2 July, Jakarta was informed that access would be granted only to officials above ambassador level. With little time left, Indonesia has not had a chance to send another envoy. The Foreign Ministry is now coordinating with Iranian authorities and awaiting a reply so the Indonesian delegation can attend the next part of the ceremony in person.
