Prabowo urges completion of 2026 Economic Census with 251,000 workers
Results will feed the 2027 state budget, update GDP base data and refresh DTSEN through end-August 2026.
President Prabowo Subianto called for the 2026 Economic Census, which runs through the end of August, to be completed successfully, with 251,000 workers deployed across villages throughout Indonesia. In the government introduction to the 2027 state budget bill and financial note in Jakarta on Friday, Prabowo said updating calculations of economic activity has become increasingly urgent because Indonesia has not done a rebasing for more than 10 years. He also urged residents to fill out census forms honestly and stressed that data collected by Badan Pusat Statistik would not be used to pursue personal wealth or income. According to Prabowo, the quality of BPS data affects macroeconomic indicators that form the basis of the state budget. In the 2027 draft budget, the government assumes GDP of Rp27.987 trillion, with financing of Rp671,2 trillion and a deficit of 2,40 percent of GDP. The census results will also be used to update the National Single Social and Economic Data.
