Prabowo condemns MBG graft, calls culprits 'barbaric' at MPR
He vowed to keep Makan Bergizi Gratis in place, with reforms and efficiency, as 1 in 4 Indonesian children remain stunted.
President Prabowo Subianto condemned corruption in the Makan Bergizi Gratis (MBG) program and called the perpetrators “barbaric” and undeserving of respect. He made the remarks in a state address at the MPR session on Friday, Aug. 14. Prabowo said graft in a program meant to feed children reflected a loss of humanity. He also said the MBG program would continue, but with improvements and greater efficiency. Prabowo said the move was directly tied to child nutrition, as one in four Indonesian children still experience stunting. He said the condition affects the growth of brain cells, bones and muscles, leaving the government unable to let it continue.
