Prabowo appoints IPB Rector Alim Setiawan as deputy minister
Kementan now has two deputy ministers, with Alim expected to bolster food self-sufficiency and agricultural downstreaming through campus research.
President Prabowo Subianto installed IPB University Rector Alim Setiawan Slamet as Deputy Minister of Agriculture at Istana Negara, Jakarta, on Thursday (15/10). With the appointment, Kementerian Pertanian now has two deputy ministers after Muhammad Saleh Mustofa was sworn in on 1 October. After the ceremony, Alim said he wants university research and innovation to be used to support the food self-sufficiency program and the downstreaming of agricultural products. He said campuses have many innovations, from superior seeds to other agricultural technologies that can help national strategic programs. Alim did not detail how his duties would be divided, saying he was still awaiting direction from Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman and a follow-up meeting after the swearing-in.
