Prabowo replaces Suharyanto, names Kristomei to lead BNPB
The change comes as BNPB deals with wildfire haze and scrutiny over a KPK sting operation involving the agency.
President Prabowo Subianto removed Suharyanto as head of Badan Nasional Penanggulangan Bencana and installed Lt. Gen. Kristomei Sianturi as his replacement at Istana Merdeka in Jakarta on Thursday (15/10). The change was based on Presidential Decree No. 113 P Tahun 2026 on the dismissal and appointment of the BNPB chief. Kristomei previously served as Pangdam XXI/Radin Inten, after earlier posts as Kapuspen TNI and deputy governor of Akademi Militer. Suharyanto had led BNPB since Nov. 17, 2021. The reshuffle came as BNPB continued to deal with smoke haze and amid reports of a KPK sting operation that named Bima Setyawan, Suharyanto's younger brother, as one of the suspects.
