NTT quake damages 2 campuses, evacuates 61 KKN students
Kemdiktisaintek urged campuses in NTT to delay in-person classes, reset schedules and shift to remote learning where possible.
The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology reported that two campuses in Nusa Tenggara Timur were affected by a magnitude 7.7 quake that shook Flores on Saturday, August 15, 2026. Sekolah Tinggi Pertanian Flores Bajawa suffered minor damage, while Politeknik ElBajo Commodus reported damage to classroom ceilings. At the same time, 61 Kuliah Kerja Nyata students from Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta in Manggarai Barat and Manggarai Timur were reported safe and then evacuated with residents to safer locations. Kemdiktisaintek asked campuses to apply academic flexibility, including remote learning, schedule adjustments, and delays to practicums, exams, research and other activities in areas that are not yet safe.
