Nepal allows limited foreign experts after rejecting SAR team
The focus is on identifying bodies, DNA testing, tunnel evacuations, and restoring bridges and communications.
The government of Nepal has begun allowing limited entry for foreign experts after earlier turning down offers of search and rescue teams following flash floods on the Nepal-China border. A senior government official, quoted by Kathmandu Post and reported by Antara, said the move came amid pressure from the international community because foreign nationals are also missing. Nepal still considers local teams sufficient for SAR operations, but needs specialized technical support, including body identification, DNA testing, evacuation of people trapped in tunnels, and restoration of transport access and communications. India earlier offered assistance and has sent 47.5 tons of humanitarian aid; Nepal has also requested Bailey bridges from India and China. The death toll has been reported at 626.
