Iran military asserts full control over Strait of Hormuz

Tehran ordered all vessels to use official routes and secure IRGC Navy approval before transit, warning of a firm response to violations.

Iran's armed forces Central Command reiterated Tehran's full control over the Strait of Hormuz and called on all vessels to comply with the applicable navigation rules. In a Saturday statement, the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said merchant ships, oil tankers and other vessels must pass through designated routes. Iran also said each vessel must first obtain permission from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy, or IRGC Navy, before transiting. The statement said violations of the rules could endanger the safety and security of maritime traffic. Iran's military also warned military vessels not to interfere with the management of the strait linking the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, saying any interference would be met with a firm response.
