Messi and Salah start as Argentina face Egypt in round of 16
The winner in Atlanta could meet Colombia in the quarterfinals if Colombia eliminates Swiss.
Argentina started Lionel Messi and Julian Alvarez as it faced Egypt in the round of 16 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. On the other side, Mohamed Salah was used as an attacking midfielder to support lone striker Mustafa Abdel Raouf Zico. Lionel Scaloni lined up in a 4-4-2 with Emiliano Martinez in goal, then Nahuel Molina, Cristian Romero, Lisandro Martinez and Nicolas Tagliafico in the back line. Hossam Hassan responded with a 4-2-3-1 featuring Oufa Shobeir, Mohamed Hany, Rami Rabia, Ibrahim Yasser, Hafez Karim, Mohanad Lasheen, Marwan Attia, Emam Ashour, Haissem Hassan and Salah. Colombia fans also followed the match because the winner could be their opponent in the quarterfinals.
