Kushner meets Hamas chief in Egypt ahead of Netanyahu talks
What’s next: A 14-day negotiation window on a 15-point Gaza plan can start only if Israel and Hamas both approve it.
Jared Kushner met Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya in Egypt on Sunday in a fresh U.S.-backed push to revive a stalled Gaza ceasefire plan, with talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu set for Monday. The 15-point road map calls for Hamas to disarm in Gaza and for Israel to withdraw from the war-ravaged territory. Israeli forces still largely control Gaza more than 10 months after the ceasefire ended major military operations. Netanyahu rejected the plan last week, prompting a joint statement from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Pakistan, Indonesia and mediators blaming Israel for blocking peace efforts.
