Kemendikdasmen limits gadget use in schools under SE 18/2026

Schools are being told to regulate device use during class, not ban it outright, while strengthening students' digital literacy.

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education issued Circular Letter No. 18 of 2026 limiting the use of gadgets in educational units. The rule applies during learning activities and asks school principals to adjust their code of conduct to each school's needs. Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti stressed that the measure is not a total ban, but an arrangement to ensure gadgets are used for educational purposes. The government said the step is needed to improve students' concentration, strengthen social interaction among students, and reduce the risks of digital addiction, exposure to negative content, online violence, cyber security threats, and physical and mental health problems. Schools are also still being asked to make room for digital technology in learning.
