Kemendikdasmen reviews Prabowo guidance on French in schools
DPR will seek details on the roadmap, rules and teacher readiness as Kemendikdasmen studies whether to adopt the French-language plan.
Kemendikdasmen said it will review President Prabowo Subianto's guidance for French to be taught in Indonesian schools. Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Atip Latipulhayat said the ministry would study and follow up on the instruction. Prabowo delivered the guidance during a state visit to Paris, France, when he met French President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee Palace. He said French-language instruction should be considered in light of global developments and stronger Indonesia-France ties in education, science and technology. In the DPR, Deputy House Speaker Lalu Hadrian said the commission would seek clarification in a working meeting, including on the roadmap, regulations, teacher readiness and how the program would be implemented. He said strengthening foreign-language skills is important, but implementation should be phased if readiness is not yet complete.
