A federal judge on Thursday again froze President Donald Trump’s push to limit mail voting, temporarily blocking enforcement of a new rule tied to U.S. Postal Service delivery of mail ballots. U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani ordered a two-week halt after Democratic-led states and voting rights groups revived their lawsuits following a recent Supreme Court procedural ruling. The fight comes just before the first mail ballots are due for the midterm elections. States argue they lack the time and money to redesign ballots, update systems, train staff and upload voter data to meet the Postal Service’s requirements. A hearing is set for Sept. 3, and the case is likely to return quickly to the Supreme Court.
